Mustang (from Tibetan mun tan (Wylie smon-thang) which means “fertile plain”) is the former Kingdom of Lo and now part of Nepal, in the north-central part of the country, bordering the People’s Republic of China on the Tibetan plateau between the Nepalese provinces of Dolpo and Manang. The culture is Tibetan Buddhist.

The Kingdom of Lo, the traditional Mustang region, and “Upper Mustang” are one and the same, comprising the northern two-thirds of the present-day Nepalese
Mustang District, and are well marked by official “Mustang” border signs just north of Kagbeni where a police post checks permits for non-Nepalese seeking to enter the region, and at Gyu La (pass) east of Kagbeni.

Life in Mustang revolves around tourism, animal husbandry and trade. Except for a 9-km portion from Chhusang to Syangboche (just south of Ghiling (Geling)), as of August 2010, it is bisected by a new road linking it to the Tibet Autonomous Region (TAR) to the north and to the rest of Nepal to the south. Plans call for the final nine km portion to be completed in just a few years’ time, which will provide, with a high point of 4660 m at Kora La on the Mustang-TAR border, the lowest drivable corridor through the Himalayas linking the Tibetan Plateau via Nepal to the tropical Indian plains. (The easiest and only widely used road corridor, from Kathmandu to Lhasa via the Arniko Rajmarg (or Arniko Highway), traverses a 5125 m pass.)

The Kingdom was overthrown in 2008 following the overthrow of its suzerain Kingdom of Nepal the same year. The influence of the outside world, and especially China, is growing and contributing to rapid change in the lives of Mustang’s people.

The show starts and there are dancers in colourful attires depicting varieties of Hindu gods and goddesses Barahi, Ganesh, Shiva, Krishna among many others. Garlands of different sizes are worn by the dancers which steal the immediate attention of the onlookers. Kartik Naach was started by Siddhi Narsingh Malla in 1697 BS during the Malla era. This era was considered to be the Golden Age of Nepal as art and craft developed vastly during this time. There are a number of stories behind the legend of this dance festival.

Some believe that the dance is performed to give honour to the Hindu deity Kartikeya, while some believe that it was king Siddhi’s love for deities, art, crafts and literature. However, Kiran Chitrakar, Chairman of Kartik Naach Samrakshan Samiti, opined that the dance is named as Kartik Naach as it is performed during the month of Kartik. The desperate wait to see the dancers in their colourful attires and props goes on increasing when varieties of musical instruments are played by a group of musicians at the Kartik Dabali. People in search of the best place to get a good view of the dance are seen moving all around the courtyards. As the volunteers come carrying an oil container and some cotton wicks, one knows one’s wait is over the show is about to start.
Ahead of this past weekend, Bollywood was set for a showdown of superstar Shah Rukh Khan’s romantic musical action comedy Dilwale and period war action romance drama Bajirao Mastani starring Quantico‘s Priyanka Chopra and Deepika Padukone. It was expected before the weekend that SRK would have the majority of screens and come out on top — and I expected the movie to be among the top international players in a weekend where Star Wars would dominate everywhere else.Any movie with Bollywood mega-stars is an event that grabs the country, but the effect of having two at the same time appears to have divided it. Both films ended up ranking at about No. 4 and No. 5 globally for the weekend. That’s as compared to, say, Salman Khan’s recent Prem Ratan Dhan Payo, which debuted to $31M and No. 2 on the international charts. This should be of concern for a major date next year when SRK goes up against his sometime rival/sometime pal, Salman Khan on the lucrative Eid holiday. It also comes just ahead of Star Wars‘ debut in India — one of three markets Disney held back from the day-and-date release.
As soon as the decades-old Twin Otter landed at Lukla airport, passengers burst out in applause. They do that for nearly every safe landing at the often terrifying airport at the gateway to Mount Everest.

At an altitude of 2,843 meters (9,325 feet), the small airstrip here has earned a reputation as one of the most extreme and dangerous airports in the world
The airport is popular because Lukla is the place where most people start the climb to Mount Everest Base Camp. High winds, cloud cover, and changing visibility often mean flights can be delayed or the airport closed. The airport is contained within a chain link fence and patrolled by the Nepali armed police or civil police around the clock

46 year old John Marriot was leading a photography workshop at Jasper National Park in Canada. That is when he noticed the huge animal licking his car. Initially John wanted to get his full camera kit out of his vehicle. But he decided against it when he realized that the moose cow was bigger than his SUV. The footage was shot by John this year on October.
He said, ‘I was leading a photography workshop when I spotted the cow and calf licking my car. It was incredible to watch – I even asked them to clean up around the mirror as this was clearly a free moose car wash. I wanted to get into my car to get my full gear out and film this properly but the cow wasn’t having that. It was bigger than my SUV so I kept my distance and filmed from my phone – which is the best I could do. I’ve been a wildlife photographer for more than 20 years and I have never seen anything quite like this. They were attracted to the road salt that had got caught up in the mud and didn’t really make my car much cleaner.
It wasn’t a great car wash but it was free so I guess I will take that.’ The video has been uploaded on YouTube channel of Barcroft TV and in the video the moose and it’s calf can clearly be seen licking salt off the SUV.
