Nepal has no separate Air Force but flies several aircraft within Nepalese Army Service, also known as the Nepal Army Air Wing. It was formed in 1960s, but became an air force unit in 1979. Finally, It is now again a part of the Army. It has limited combat capabilities as only few helicopters can be armed .The main objective of this flying element is transport, flying paratroopers and assistance in case of an emergency (e.g. natural disasters). Apart from the 11th Brigade the country has established a VIP Flight from Tribhuvan Airport, mostly the aircraft are stationed at Kathmandu, Surkhet and Dipayal. From 1996 - 2006 the country was in civil war against Maoist rebels who strove to overthrow the constitutional monarchy and establish a republic. Their attacks increased since the massacre of the Royal Family in 2001. This development led to the need for armed helicopters. Several types of aircraft have entered service since: MI-17s, M28 Skytruck, HAL Lancer and HAL Dhruv. The UK has delivered two Britten-Norman Islanders and two MI-17s free of charge. China decided to supply an MA-60 (an Y-7 derivative). Mustang (from Tibetan mun tan (Wylie smon-thang) which means “fertile plain”) is the former Kingdom of Lo and now part of Nepal, in the north-central part of the country, bordering the People’s Republic of China on the Tibetan plateau between the Nepalese provinces of Dolpo and Manang. Except for a 9-km portion from Chhusang to Syangboche (just south of Ghiling (Geling)), as of August 2010, it is bisected by a new road linking it to the Tibet Autonomous Region (TAR) to the north and to the rest of Nepal to the south. Plans call for the final nine km portion to be completed in just a few years’ time, which will provide, with a high point of 4660 m at Kora La on the Mustang-TAR border, the lowest drivable corridor through the Himalayas linking the Tibetan Plateau via Nepal to the tropical Indian plains. (The easiest and only widely used road corridor, from Kathmandu to Lhasa via the Arniko Rajmarg (or Arniko Highway), traverses a 5125 m pass.)<br />
<br />
The Kingdom was overthrown in 2008 following the overthrow of its suzerain Kingdom of Nepal the same year. The influence of the outside world, and especially China, is growing and contributing to rapid change in the lives of Mustang’s people.

The show starts and there are dancers in colourful attires depicting varieties of Hindu gods and goddesses  Barahi, Ganesh, Shiva, Krishna among many others. Garlands of different sizes are worn by the dancers which steal the immediate attention of the onlookers. Kartik Naach was started by Siddhi Narsingh Malla in 1697 BS during the Malla era. This era was considered to be the Golden Age of Nepal as art and craft developed vastly during this time. There are a number of stories behind the legend of this dance festival.<br />

Some believe that the dance is performed to give honour to the Hindu deity Kartikeya, while some believe that it was king Siddhi’s love for deities, art, crafts and literature. However, Kiran Chitrakar, Chairman of Kartik Naach Samrakshan Samiti, opined that the dance is named as Kartik Naach as it is performed during the month of Kartik.The desperate wait to see the dancers in their colourful attires and props goes on increasing when varieties of musical instruments are played by a group of musicians at the Kartik Dabali. People in search of the best place to get a good view of the dance are seen moving all around the courtyards. As the volunteers come carrying an oil container and some cotton wicks, one knows one’s wait is over the show is about to start.<br />
